Logitech mouse review. Logitech MX Master Wireless Mouse. Packaging and equipment

The peripherals industry is primarily associated with gaming devices. For example, the statement that a gamer needs a comfortable modern mouse does not raise questions. But what if many hours of spending time at the computer does not come down to virtual battles, but to thoughtful work or the implementation of a voluminous list of tasks in which the convenience and capabilities of the manipulator are also important?

Logitech is closely involved in the direction of manipulators for work. Their flagship model is called the MX Master 2S, which will be discussed in this article.

PACKAGING AND COMPLETE SET

The Logitech MX Master 2S mouse provided for review is not for sale, so the box contains a preprint layout. The images are low resolution and are marked with the FPO sign, i.e. distribution packages must be replaced before printing. Concerning text information, then it is duplicated three times in English - depending on the regions of product sales, two options will be replaced by other languages.

The packaging of the Logitech MX Master 2S mouse is teal and gray. The front part of the box is folding with magnetic fixation.

The advantages noted on the packaging emphasize the isolated positioning of the manipulator even before opening the package, since the annotations are very different in content from what is usually found on the boxes of gaming mice.

The manufacturer highlights the following key features Logitech MX Master 2S mice:

  • Fast-charging battery that lasts up to 70 days without recharging.
  • Sensor with support for Darkfield technology, which allows you to track movement on glossy and glass surfaces.
  • Step-by-step and fast inertial scrolling mode with the possibility of automatic switching.
  • Extra thumb wheel.
  • Convenient form for many hours of work at the computer.
  • Up to three devices can be connected to the mouse, it is possible to exchange information between them.
  • Support for two types of wireless communication: Bluetooth LE and at a frequency of 2.4 GHz.
  • The presence of a gesture button.
  • The ability to programmatically reconfigure all buttons through the Logitech Options app.

The delivery set consists of the following items:

  • mouse Logitech MX Master 2S;
  • a Logitech Unifying receiver;
  • microUSB-USB connection cable;
  • brochure with warranty;
  • disassembly diagram of the device to remove the battery.

Separately, I would like to pay attention to how the connection cable is folded. Typically, the wires of the devices are folded into a bundle and fixed, as a result of which, after extraction, they remain multiple bends, which, as a rule, are poorly straightened.

The complete MS Master 2S cable is rolled around the circumference, so there is not a single crease on it.

Appearance

The Logitech MX Master 2S mouse is available in three colors: black (graphite), teal and light gray.

The case of the manipulator is asymmetrical, made under the right palm and has a pronounced slope. A wide protruding platform is made under the thumb.

A microUSB connector is located in the center of the front face, the back part is slightly raised.

On the left panel there is an additional wheel and two triangular side buttons under the thumb, one more button is hidden under the base of the protruding platform. The panel is completed by a three-level battery charge indicator.

There are no functional elements on the right side.

The main buttons are not part of the case and are made in the form of separate panels, the manufacturer's logo is applied on the left key. In the center is a scroll wheel, behind which is a button to change the scroll mode.

On the base of the mouse there are four Teflon legs of different sizes: the central ones are made in the form of two semicircles and close the functional block, on which the power button, mouse sensor window and a three-position switch for changing connected devices are located.

After being taken out of the package this block covered with a sticker short instruction as icons and a link to download the Logitech Options app.

In front of the base, the voltage (5 volts), the maximum current consumption (500 milliamps), the country of production (China) are indicated.

The body of the device is assembled from two materials. The back of the case and the side panels are made of rubber - these are not linings, but parts of the case. The material is pleasant to the touch: solid, textured. It doesn't look like the rubber pads found on gaming mice.

The plastic part of the body is also made atypically - it is a smooth, even surface, which is very comfortable in terms of tactile sensations. A direct analogy with soft-touch plastic cannot be drawn, since it is viscous and oily, but here there are no such sensations.

The execution of plastic parts does not differ - the material is the same both on the upper part of the case and on the base of the device.

On the border of the side panels on both sides, you can see small "seams", followed by a decor of triangular shapes located in different planes to each other. The design of the panels is excellent and complements the look of the device well.

On examination appearance it is impossible not to notice the loose fit of the left side rubber panel to the edge of the case. This is not an assembly error, the fact is that there is a button under the panel that is pressed with the thumb.

Connection methods

The Logitech MX Master 2S mouse supports two types of wireless connection- Bluetooth LE and 2.4 GHz connection via included receiver.

There is also a wired connection via USB, but it is used only to recharge the internal battery of the device.

For installation wireless connection the switch on the base of the mouse must be turned on, the position of the toggle switch is not important for simple recharging of the battery.

2.4 GHz wireless

Connecting a mouse wirelessly at 2.4 GHz requires the included Unifying USB receiver to be connected to the user's system.

The receiver is miniature: a little more than a USB port in width - 14.5 millimeters, it will protrude from the device body by 6.5 millimeters. The Logitech logo is placed on the top edge, the connector is marked with serial number and country of origin (China).

This receiver allows you to connect up to 6 compatible devices to one computer.

Connecting via Bluetooth LE

The Bluetooth LE protocol is not an identification of classic Bluetooth, for example, if your laptop supports a Bluetooth connection, this does not mean that it supports Bluetooth LE.

Bluetooth Low Energy is included in the Bluetooth 4.0 specification, so your device must support this version or higher.

By standard means, connection via the Bluetooth LE protocol is possible in operating rooms. Mac systems OS X 10.10 or higher and Windows 8 or higher, no protocol support in Windows 7.

Wired connection for recharging

A microUSB to USB cable is included for connecting a mouse. The bases of the plugs are made of the same length - 2 centimeters, the shape is rectangular with smooth rounding - the design is restrained, but interesting.

The wire is moderately flexible, without braid, its length is 132 centimeters, and its thickness is 3.5 millimeters. For storage of a cable in the folded state the textile fastener like Velcro is provided.

The microUSB port is located exactly in the center of the front of the mouse body. The connector is tightly fixed in the connector and does not dangle either vertically or horizontally. It takes a little force to release.

A wired connection is required only to recharge the mouse battery - for some reason, the manufacturer does not provide the ability to work via a USB cable, although it is easy to assume scenarios for the indispensability of such an opportunity:

  1. If the mouse is connected to the main stationary system via Unifying, then it will not be possible to connect the manipulator, for example, to a laptop without Bluetooth LE support or with Windows 7 on board. In such a case, a wired connection would be an easy solution.
  2. If the battery fails, the mouse cannot be used until a new battery is supplied. By the way, the manufacturer fully admits the scenario of a battery malfunction and its replacement, since among the documentation there is a diagram for disassembling the device to remove the battery.

Charge indicator

A three-level indicator on the left side panel displays the battery charge. In the operating mode, the indicator is inactive, it is activated only for a few seconds when the manipulator is turned on. The color of the LEDs is green.

With a wired connection, the indicator works constantly. The LEDs turn on alternately, thereby demonstrating the charging process.

You can also view the battery level at any time in the Logitech Options app. The software indicator is identical to the on-board indicator - also three-position.

Housing design and execution MX Master 2S

Two parts of the body are fastened with 6 screws. Two of them with a Torx slot are located in the front, the other four fasteners have a cross slot and are closed by the right and left legs.

At the bottom of the case, there are two printed circuit boards, a battery and a main scroll wheel assembly.

A 500 milliamp-hour (3.7 volt, 1.85 watt-hour) lithium polymer battery is housed in a plastic frame secured with three screws to the base of the mouse.

Scroll wheel. The scroll wheel carriage is movable and fixed at the front at two points. The carriage contains a scroll and an electromagnet for retracting the step-by-step cut-off mechanism.

The encoder is optical, the scroll wheel button is located under the electromagnet. Clicking on it occurs with the entire structure, and not with the scroll axis.

Printed circuit boards. The PMW3816 laser sensor is located in the center of the main board. It was not possible to find a specification for it on the network, so the official Logitech website remains the only source. Sensor resolution is adjustable from 200 to 4000 DPI in increments of 50 units.

On the reverse side of the board, in addition to the lens, there is an on (off) button and a button for changing connections with three LEDs.

The device controller is located to the right of the sensor and is made in the form of a Nordic Semiconductor N51802 single-chip system that supports both Bluetooth low energy (Bluetooth LE) wireless technology and a 2.4 GHz connection.

Another chip on the board is shift register HC595.

On the additional board for the main buttons, two Chinese-made Omron D2FC-F-7N (10M) microswitches are soldered, the declared resource is 10 million clicks.

The upper part of the body. Since the exterior of the upper part of the case is not uniform, but consists of plastic and rubber panels, the whole structure is reinforced from the inside with a black frame. Here are all the switches for additional buttons and the scroll wheel for the thumb.

The pusher for the button under the thumb directly contacts the rubber panel, that is, the panel is part of the case, and not just an overlay.

The panels of the main buttons are separated from the case, each of them is fixed with a pair of screws. Under the main buttons are spring-loaded reversible closers.

The functional block of the upper part of the case is represented by three small boards interconnected. Two of them have switches for the gesture button and the button for changing the mode of the main scroll wheel.

The central board houses the tact switches for the two side buttons and a scroll wheel for the thumb with a rather unusual mechanism.

There is no optical or conventional mechanical encoder. The design of the wheel is fixed to the semicircular metal plate- this suggests that a magnetic scroll is used.

Logitech Options Software

The application must be downloaded from the official website. Description of features will be based on program version 6.80.372.

You cannot select the interface language either in the program itself or during the installation process, which is very inconvenient.

Localization can hardly be called flawless, since many phrases exceed the allowed number of characters in a line, so their meaning is not clear. At the same time, switch the interface to English language there is no possibility.

Button remapping

The Mouse tab allows you to remap the functions of the side scroll wheel and five keys. Scrolling up and down the main scroll is not provided for customization, only the scroll wheel button is available.

The main keys cannot be reconfigured, but their functions can be switched between them. For the remaining buttons, the selection consists of 58 options.

For an additional scroll wheel, there are 9 options to choose from, among which there is no possibility to attach a vertical scroll function to the side wheel, which would be very convenient in certain scenarios.

Scroll settings

The MX Master 2S mouse is equipped with a primary and secondary side scroll, which differ not only in technical implementation but also in customization options.

The main scroll wheel operates in two modes - incremental and inertial. There are two ways to switch between them:

  • manual - by pressing the button to which the switching function is assigned (by default, the button is behind the scroll wheel);
  • automatic - through the SmartShift function. With long scrolls, step-by-step scrolling is replaced by inertial one. The trigger threshold is also configurable.

Option " Smooth scrolling"adds a" software "smoothness to the main wheel, that is, with one turn, there is not a step-by-step shift of the screen, but a smooth movement.

"For example. wheel for bol. fell." is a clear example of a useless translation. The parameter is responsible for the direction of scrolling the wheel for the thumb.

The option "Sensitivity of the wheel ..." - despite the quite readable name, it does not reflect the purpose of the parameter. It follows from the phrase that the sensitivity of the main scroll wheel is adjusted, but in fact the setting refers to an additional scroll, and such an adjustment is not provided for the main wheel.

DPI setting

The Pointer Speed option in the Pointer and Scroll tab is nothing more than a DPI setting. It is not without reason that Logitech pays enough attention to the convenience and ease of use of its products, but when designing it is important not only to achieve the desired result, but also not to lose meaning along the way.

So, the author does not see anything convenient in the fact that the set DPI value is not displayed. This characteristic is clear and understandable to almost any user, not to mention technical specialists whose work is related to graphics packages and design programs.

After working for a sufficient amount of time, the user knows convenient DPI values \u200b\u200bfor performing his tasks, taking into account the diagonal of the monitor and its resolution, if there is more than one working configuration (for example, a laptop is also used) or the task area on the second system is different, then, accordingly, a convenient DPI parameter quite different, the value of which the user also perfectly represents.

If you remember that the MX Master 2S supports up to three connected systems, then the absence of a DPI value completely loses all meaning.

If we turn to the technical specifications, the sensor sensitivity ranges from 200 to 4000 DPI in increments of 50 units.

The author counted the number of positions on the scale - exactly 77 pieces, which exactly corresponds to the above characteristics. By default, the sensitivity is set to 1000 DPI - this is the 16th position from the left edge.

When assigning the sensitivity change function to any button, only two levels are available, while DPI digital equivalents are not displayed even in this mode. Whom designers software afraid to scare or confuse DPI values - unknown.

Gesture button

By default, the function is assigned to the button under the thumb. The bottom line is that when you hold down and move the mouse in one of the four directions (up, down, left, right), one of four actions is activated. The fifth event is assigned to a simple click.

The program has 6 control schemes for the gesture button and one scheme for customization to choose from.

EASYSWITCH AND LOGITECH FLOW TECHNOLOGY

The Logitech MX Master 2S mouse can be connected to up to three devices. Switching between systems is performed by a button on the basis of the manipulator - this function is called EasySwitch.

A further development of EasySwitch is Logitech Flow technology, which allows you to work with connected systems in a single environment. To activate it, you need to install Logitech Options on all systems and activate Flow. Thus, when moving the cursor to the edge of the screen, to which the “neighboring” system is attached, the mouse automatically switches to it.

In addition to the sides, screens can be connected both along the lower and upper faces. There is an option to disable screen corners - this helps to prevent unwanted cursor transitions to another system, for example, when closing or minimizing a window.

Logitech Flow allows you not only to quickly switch between devices, but also to some extent simplify the process of transferring data between systems connected to the same network: you can copy a document on one computer, move the cursor to another system, and paste the document.

Impressions of the MX Master 2S

Main scroll wheel

As the analysis showed, the design of the scroll wheel is quite massive, but it is not rigidly fixed, so there is a horizontal play. Moreover, the backlash is not a scroll, but the entire block, which is accompanied by a slight rattle. Automatic switching from step to inertial mode works well, which helps when working with long documents or web pages.

In step mode, the cutoffs are distinct and are accompanied by a click. If you do not use the inertial mode, then on long, long scrolls, clicks will develop into a noticeable rattle, which can become an irritant factor not only for others, but also for the user himself.

The "Smooth scrolling" option is enabled by default and works great in programs where precise line-by-line transition is not important. But, for example, when working with electronic Google Spreadsheets this option does not work quite correctly: after one turn of the wheel, there is a delay of two screen shifts.

There may be other applications where this feature is better not to use, but it is not necessary to make a clear decision about it, since the mouse can be individually configured for certain applications.

Side scroll wheel

The side scroll wheel is silent and smooth. Horizontal scrolling is useful in graphics packages and spreadsheets. Correct operation largely depends on the freshness of the software version. The most convenient horizontal scrolling at the minimum level of sensitivity.

It's strange that you can't assign a vertical scroll function to the side scroll, which would be very convenient in certain scenarios:

  • firstly, for silent scrolling, if a quiet environment is required, for example, during a presentation;
  • secondly, when reading a document to scroll through several lines, you can not move your index finger from the left button to the main scroll wheel.

Grip and side buttons

Despite the ergonomic shape of the MX Master 2S, it is important to choose the right palm position. The body of the mouse is large, so a tight palm grip seems most appropriate. But with such a grip, the thumb pad will be much further than the side scroll wheel, therefore, scrolling is inconvenient to use, and the side buttons will not be available.

You need to position the palm so that the slightly bent thumb is at the level of the side wheel - this is a loose palm grip or palm-finger grip. From this position, it is easy to use the scroll and it is convenient to press the side buttons.

The side buttons are triangular in shape with a pronounced central division. They are small in size, perhaps they should have been made a little larger, but even with such an implementation, they are quite comfortable to use.

It is convenient to press the lower button with a coasting phalanx from below, the upper one - with a fingertip from above. If you place your finger on the stepped division in the center, then the corresponding button is pressed by shifting up or down. Pressing is quiet, without a pronounced click.

Sensor

The resolution is adjustable from 200 to 4000 DPI in increments of 50 units. When setting up, the main inconvenience is the lack of numerical values DPI in Logitech Options.

This immediately suggested that the manufacturer does not see technical specialists in the target audience of the Logitech MX Master 2S, although, according to the author, they should be primarily interested in the capabilities of the manipulator in question.

Another reason for this conclusion was the loss of precision in the pixel refinement of the cursor. This is important when working with small program toolbars and when editing photos. I had to spend more time on the usual activities.

Accurately adjusting a 150-gram volume body with your fingers is much more difficult than a 100-gram medium-sized mouse. With fast movements, there were also misses in positioning due to inertia.

At this stage, the author was close to disappointment, but after a while the problem was solved. Visually, the sensitivity settings of both manipulators were the same - 800 DPI (recall that Logitech Options does not display the DPI value).

After calculating the divisions and positions of the tuning scale, it turned out that the sensitivity of the MX Master 2S was slightly higher. It is worth noting that by comparing the DPI values, it was not possible to achieve the same level of comfortable work, but by lowering the sensitivity to 650 units, the author got what he wanted.

Problems with misses in pixel refinement disappeared, the cursor was positioned accurately, there were no more cursor slips due to body inertia. That is, the mouse is suitable for the work of technical specialists.

The main feature of the sensor is support for Darkfield technology, which allows you to track movement on glossy and glass surfaces.

The sensor worked correctly on transparent glass and on a mirror surface. Such adaptability will be useful both in the conference room and on the coffee table in the living room.

The separation height is 1.5 millimeters - quite a comfortable value, the parameter is not adjustable.

Logitech Flow

Logitech Flow technology is primarily interesting because it provides automatic switching mouse between connected devices, creating the feeling of working in a single system.

The second possibility is to simplify the process of transferring data between computers on the same network, but on this moment(Logitech Options version 6.80.372) the copy function does not work correctly with Cyrillic - the names of files and folders after being transferred to another system change to an unreadable character set.

Appearance care

The MX Master 2S mouse is available in three colors. The body in a light gray version will require increased attention to care. There were no traces of operation on the plastic parts of the case during the tests, but noticeable dirt formed on the rubber panel in the thumb area, which, of course, spoiled the appearance.

To remove stains, a cotton pad soaked in medical ethyl alcohol. When cleaning, do not press hard on the surface, as the granular texture is erased due to friction, and the rubber surface in this place becomes smooth. The panels in their pure form do not last long, after a while it is required to repeat the procedure. If contain workplace and palms in perfect cleanliness is difficult, it is better not to consider a mouse in a light gray version for purchase.

Conclusion

It's common to see a top-of-the-line gaming pad with a 5-digit DPI limit, an accurate state-of-the-art sensor, 50 million click switches, light weight, user-friendly software, and rich RGB lighting. These characteristics add up to the price, which is sometimes high, but at the same time, as a rule, there is an understanding why the price is such.

And how should you evaluate a modern flagship work mouse like the Logitech MX Master 2S, which has almost no analogues? If you try to do this by "gaming" standards, then the result will be unimpressive: an average sensor with a limit of 4000 DPI, a weight of almost 150 grams, microswitches for 10 million clicks, complete absence illumination. In this case, the price starts from 5000 rubles.

In fact, the MX Master 2S mouse is far from being so simple - it is a set of interesting technological, constructive and software solutions aimed at optimizing the work of the computer. Therefore, to evaluate the manipulator by the standards of the gaming mouse industry is a meaningless exercise.

Features include work on any surface, two types of wireless connection, connection of up to three devices with support for simultaneous operation, step-by-step and inertial modes of the scroll wheel, an additional side wheel, a gesture button. The handy ergonomic case completes the implementation.

It won't be an exaggeration to say that the Anywhere MX is the best mouse ever made by Logitech. It cannot be called revolutionary, pretentious or incomparable from an aesthetic point of view. And yet, the mouse is beautiful. And here's the thing. Recent trends in the peripheral market make it seem like manufacturers have forgotten the true purpose of their products. Imagine for a moment that you have bought a car with a curved oval steering wheel and varnish; the surface is touch-sensitive, and multi-touch gestures are provided for the signal and control of the radio. Silly, isn't it? The steering wheel is the main control, so it should be comfortable first of all. With computer manipulators - the situation is similar. The mouse is a control organ that should be as convenient, ergonomic and reliable as possible.

Logitech Anywhere MX combines the incongruous. It is compact enough to be carried around all the time and used with a laptop. At the same time, the mouse is not so miniature as to tire during prolonged use. It so happened that I for a long time used Anywhere MX in parallel with Apple Magic Mouse. The latter captivates with its unusual design and what is commonly called corporate identity Apple. However, after a few months of use, the impression of her has deteriorated a bit. The device from Logitech, on the contrary, does not immediately evoke any emotions: a mouse is like a mouse, but after two weeks it suddenly comes to the realization that it will be difficult to part with it.

Logitech Anywhere MX on a glass table

If you follow model range, it becomes obvious that the family tree of the mouse in question looks like this: VX Revolution - VX Nano - Anywhere MX. Although, as I noted in one of the previous reviews, in the case of keyboards and mice, it is extremely rare to use the words “predecessor”, “replacement”, “flagship” and so on. But again, this follows from the fact that the mouse is a tool. And not an image bauble.

There are no equivalent alternatives to Anywhere MX. There are many simpler and more affordable solutions, there are game controllers that are much more high-tech. Anywhere MX before buying will be compared rather with Performance MX, which is in no way inferior to it, except for compactness and the resulting difficulties when used with a laptop.

Equipment

The mouse comes with two AA batteries, a compact Unifying wireless receiver, a user manual, and an accompanying software CD. As a small bonus - a leatherette case with a zipper.

Without batteries, the mouse is very light, almost weightless. However, two batteries weigh it down to the optimum weight. It is also worth noting here that the Logitech Performance MX mouse, which we recently reviewed, did not include a battery, but a battery that could be charged by connecting the manipulator to a USB port. Anywhere MX, unfortunately, does not have such an opportunity. This justifies the presence of conventional batteries in the kit. Separate Charger and rechargeable finger-type accumulators definitely won't interfere. However, using batteries is not expensive, high-quality batteries last a month for 4 work. For comparison: Apple Magic Mouse "eats" them in two to three months, depending on the activity of use.

Design, technology

Anywhere MX and Performance MX look very little in common. Both models provide comparable ease of use, but they look completely different. If we draw parallels, then Performance MX and MX Revolution have as much in common as Anywhere MX and VX Nano. The shape of the case, materials, the design of the bottom cover and the switching mechanism have slightly changed. If we describe the innovations in a short form, then we can say that Anywhere MX has become much more “transportable”: removing the cover, removing and returning the receiver to a special compartment is now faster.

The curve of the upper contour of the mouse has not changed much, rear end of the manipulator is the most convex; during operation, it just falls into the hollow in the palm of your hand. However, it all depends on the size of the hands and the length of the fingers.

On the sides, the case has a corrugated rubberized coating and neat recesses for the thumb and little finger. The shape of the case is symmetrical, left-handers will not feel disadvantaged. The only drawback: the "forward" / "back" buttons are inconvenient to press with the little finger, however, as practice shows, these keys are used very rarely. Otherwise, the set of elements is familiar: right, left button, a scroll wheel (it is also responsible for horizontal scrolling) and an additional button that acts as a middle mouse button. The scroller mechanism in Anywhere MX is slightly different from that in Performance MX. There, if you remember, there was a separate key for fixing the wheel, here pressing the scroller is responsible for fixing. Pressed once - set the lock, pressed a second - removed.

In the locked mode, the scroller works in the usual way, and a change in position is accompanied by a characteristic click. When unlocked, you can spin the wheel a lot and it will spin freely for a while. In official technical specifications up to 7 seconds of free spin is claimed, however this is an average figure. With a certain effort, you can make the wheel rotate for 12-15 seconds. True, the need to scroll through such long lists is extremely rare. The technology, we recall, is called MicroGear. It can hardly be called vital, because they did without it for a long time. However, getting used to takes just a couple of days, and when you switch to other manipulators, you understand that it is better with the MicroGear scroller than without it.

Between the right and left mouse buttons there is a metal insert, a decorative element. Although it is possible that it was conceived as an inconspicuous way to make the mouse heavier. Under the scroller and the third button there is an LED - it informs about the battery charge level. When the batteries are close to being discharged, it glows red, when the charge level is high, it glows green.

Except for the mentioned metal insert, the case is entirely plastic. On the top surface - it's a pleasant to the touch soft touch, slightly soft inserts on the sides, and otherwise - black matte plastic. Other colors are not provided. As Henry Ford once said: "You can buy a car of any color, as long as that color is black."

The case is non-marking, very practical. The mouse can easily be carried in a bag without a cover and it will not suffer from this. There are no fingerprints on the top. In general, beauty, in the best traditions of Logitech.

Two-thirds of the bottom surface of the mouse is the battery cover. The solution is unusual, but extremely convenient. In the previous incarnation, the Logitech VX Nano, the lid was significantly smaller and more difficult to remove. In the case of Anywhere MX, the process of removing the receiver or replacing batteries takes literally seconds. Logitech designers decided to get rid of a separate power switch, now a protective sensor shutter is responsible for turning on the mouse. There is no longer a button to help you remove the Unifying receiver - it is easily reached by hand.

It is unusual to see four fairly large overlays for a more comfortable glide of the mouse over the surface on such a compact device. But there is practical sense in this - a large area contributes to less intense wear.

Well, a few words about why the word Anywhere appears in the name of the mouse. On the one hand, this is a hint that the mouse is perfect for working at home, in the office and on the road. On the other hand, an indication of Darkfield technology, which allows the sensor to track movement on any surface. Logitech Anywhere MX works great on glass tables, lacquered countertops, and even mirrors. The principle of operation is extremely simple: the built-in laser shines through the smallest inhomogeneities of the surface, it can be dust, microcracks, grains of foreign elements in the glass. In this case, the microparticles can be located at different depths and be invisible to the naked eye.

Impressions of use, software

The Logitech Anywhere MX performs well on a home computer as well as a laptop. There were no complaints on PC or Mac. The mouse is recognized without the need to install drivers on both platforms. Personally, no third-party software is required for my needs - the default button functions are familiar and logical. You will need the SetPoint program to fine-tune the manipulator, for example, if you want to assign some specific functions to the keys or make several profiles for working in various applications. However, it is worth noting that SetPoint is only available for Windows. We talked about its capabilities in detail last year in our review of the Logitech G500 gaming mouse.

It is hardly possible to tell something about the buttons, except that they are pleasantly pressed and work flawlessly. The MicroGear scroller, as noted above, is not an essential item, but it causes a quick and strong addiction, gradually turning into addiction. You will not have any difficulties when switching from any other mouse to Anywhere MX, and if your previous manipulator was the Logitech VX Nano, then the process will go completely unnoticed.

The Unifying receiver in practice allows you to use the mouse at a distance of up to 7-8 meters from the computer. And yet this is not its main advantage. More importantly, since the mouse is supposed to work with a laptop, compactness comes to the fore. And when connected to USB, the receiver protrudes only 5 mm (!) and does not completely prevent the laptop from being carried in a tight case.

The battery life of the mouse is far from a record, it is about 4 months. In my opinion, this is quite enough. Ironically, batteries always die at the most inopportune moment, no matter how long ago you started using them.

conclusions

Given the high cost of the mouse, there are many cheaper alternatives. Strictly speaking, if you can afford the Logitech Anywhere MX, you can afford any other mouse. But if you are looking for a truly practical and versatile solution that can be used with equal success at home, at work, on the road, at airports, hotels and cafes, it will be difficult to find something equivalent. For the purchase of this particular mouse, its convenient shape, buttons, an excellent sensor that works on all surfaces, a compact wireless receiver, which even connected to USB does not interfere at all and almost does not protrude, speak for the purchase of this particular mouse.

If we talk about different categories of users, then in fact we have only one group that Anywhere MX will not suit - these are pro-gamers. However, she didn’t even think about it - Logitech has a diverse line of gaming accessories. The price is naturally high, you can not even try to compare it with the cost of manipulators from other manufacturers. At the time of writing.

We have tried to make the description as good as possible so that your choice is unmistakable and conscious, but since we may not have exploited this product, but only felt it from all sides, and after you buy it, try it in work, your feedback can make this world a better place, if your feedback is really useful, then we will publish it and give it you the opportunity to make the next purchase with us on the 2nd column.

Logitech MX Master Master - Just great!

5 Petukhov Viktor 24-02-2017

Device Owner Rating: Logitech MX Master Master
Advantages:
Comfortable, functional, beautiful. I ordinary user, not the player, respectively, and the tip from the normal use of the mouse. I have been using Logitech MX Revolution for many years (I have 3 of them), got used to it, set it up as convenient for me. After one died (I don’t even remember how many years she plowed, the very first one I bought), I didn’t want to get used to something else, but progress does not stand still and you can’t buy Revolution anymore. Moreover, I found out that Performance MX came out after it, and then Master MX took it. At first it was unusual, the grip is a little different, but everything quickly returned to normal. The mouse is quite large, with my medium-sized hand it did not cause problems for me. The wife at first complained that it was too big, but then she adapted. All buttons are in place, pressed as they should, even those on the side wheel. I have them set to the "copy / paste" function that I use quite often, I'm used to this and I was a little worried that it would be inconvenient because of their size, but everything is fine. The Logitech Options app is more convenient, clearer, and simpler than the old SetPoint. I really liked that you can charge while working, unlike the static charging glass of the Revolution. It is too early to speak about the wear resistance of materials, but the quality of materials and assembly are at their best. In short, I am completely satisfied!
Flaws:
Not a disadvantage, but rather a violation of habit - before the side wheel had limited travel in each direction and pressing - it was possible to assign three key combinations to its movement. In the Master, there is no pressing, the wheel has no restrictions on rotation in any direction, and only strictly fixed functions can be assigned to it. In my opinion, it used to be more convenient.

The Logitech Performance MX is one of the coolest and most expensive non-gaming mice out there today. And my personal opinion is for those 5 thousand rubles what they ask for, it must be perfect. But something must have gone wrong...

Let's talk about pricing first. Personally, I bought this mouse for less than 3 thousand rubles (praise to discounts and bonuses), but at the same time the price for it started at 5 thousand rubles, and today you are unlikely to buy it cheaper. Not many people know that Logitech Performance MX is not the company's coolest mouse. There is also Logitech MX Master - it is even more expensive and cooler, but it is rare, as it was released recently, and costs from 6 thousand rubles.

Ergonomic mouse Logitech MX - for what such money?

Indeed, the first thing you want to know is why you give such an impressive amount. I can't speak for everyone, but I'll tell you the reason why I personally bought this mouse - it's great ergonomics. Working with the mouse is really very convenient. After working with small mice for a long time, my hand began to hurt, and in order to avoid all these tunnel syndromes and other troubles, it was decided to buy something more comfortable than a cheap Genius for 150 rubles.

But why 5 thousand, Carl? I don't have an exact answer to this question. Of course, the growing dollar also contributed. But even without this factor, the Logitech Performance MX would hardly cost less than 4 thousand. And this, you see, is also a lot.

Appearance and controls

The mouse itself is wireless - it works from a special receiver that is plugged into the computer's USB port. This is a longstanding Logitech technology that many have come across. You can connect several devices (mouse, keyboard) to one receiver, and all of them will work without problems.

The mouse itself is quite large and heavy. Due to the size of the device, the hand rests comfortably on it, all fingers find their place. But the mouse seemed a bit tall, but this does not cause any particular problems. In addition to the usual buttons (left, right and wheel), there are four buttons on the side, one of which is conveniently located below the thumb. Above the wheel there is also an additional button that changes the type of rotation of the mouse wheel: you can choose either standard incremental scrolling, when each position of the wheel is fixed with a weak click, or scrolling without resistance.

The quality of the materials is good. To be honest, I didn’t like the very structure of the plastic, its roughness, but the material itself is quite high quality. But the assembly let us down. The device is assembled poorly. Looking ahead, I will say that because of this it was returned back to the seller. Specifically, my copy showed non-compliance with the gaps between the left mouse button and the body, which is why when pressed, the button stuck, was not pressed all the way and constantly scraped against the sidewall. To be honest, for all the time that I've known desktop computers and mice in particular, I have never observed such a jamb in assembly. Seriously, even ball mice.

The mouse uses 1 battery (AA). The mouse is charged by connecting to USB port computer (the case has a MicroUSB port). There is simply no battery, it needs to be changed immediately, otherwise the mouse sits down very quickly. Or maybe I'm just unlucky with it? In any case, Logitech battery-powered mice usually last a very long time. So, I attribute the problem to the battery.

After reading the reviews, after the purchase, a simple fact becomes clear: quality is not a priority now. Lots of negative reviews. The main problem of Logitech Performance MX, according to users, is the failure of the left mouse button: it starts to double-click when pressed once. There is even a video on YouTube to fix this shortcoming (suitable for those who have already run out of warranty, the rest should take the mouse to the service).

With regards to the controls, it is also worth noting the fact that in order to configure the buttons and for a more adequate operation of the mouse in general, it is worth downloading the drivers from the manufacturer's website.

Observations while running Logitech Performance MX

As I wrote earlier - the mouse is very comfortable. Working with her is a pleasure. You don't need to get used to it, despite its ergonomic shape. Additional buttons are conveniently located. I didn’t use them much, but the thumb button is a masterpiece. It would seem that it is possible to place a button in a new place so that it is convenient - it turns out that it is possible.

The lag-free scroll wheel mode is amazing in terms of feel. The wheel is light and responsive. But there is a drawback - scrolling does not always work adequately. This is probably due precisely to the stepless - the wheel falls between two conditional steps and automatically selects one of them, which may cause jerking of the image on the screen. As for the usual step-by-step scrolling mode, it works flawlessly in this regard - it flips through the pages clearly. However, the scrolling sound is loud (clicks). Another point that upset me is that it is inconvenient to press the wheel, it constantly strives to slip off.

What I personally didn’t have with this mouse was the ability to connect to different devices. You understand, if you have a couple of working computers (a computer and a laptop, for example), then you want to use a good mouse on both. But in the case of Logitech Performance MX, this will not work. One solution is to plug the USB receiver from one computer and plug it into another, but this is not very convenient. There is another option, when you have two receivers, you can connect the mouse to the receiver that is currently in use each time you switch from one computer to another. This is also not very convenient, to put it mildly. This problem is solved in the Logitech MX Master mouse - there are three channels, you can switch between them simply by pressing a button on the mouse.

Conclusions on the results of use

I returned the mouse, got the money back - such results. The mouse turned out to be with an obvious marriage, or maybe poor assembly and jamming of the buttons - this is no longer a marriage? So, the mouse from Logitech disappointed this time. Buying a mouse for that kind of money, I want to get a little more than when buying a device for 500 rubles. Below you can see the pros and cons of the Logitech Performance MX.

pros

  • Ergonomics
  • materials
  • Wheel
  • Good extra buttons

Minuses

  • Build quality
  • Battery
  • Wheel (this is not a mistake, the wheel causes ambiguous impressions, so there are both pluses and minuses)
  • Lack of channels to connect to different computers

All in all, I can't recommend this mouse for purchase. In this case, Logitech significantly cheated. There is hope for the Logitech MX Master, the company's flagship. But I don’t plan to buy it personally yet - the price is too sky-high there.
