Type

Deciding on the type of device (phone or smartphone?) is quite simple. If you need a simple and inexpensive device for calls and SMS, it is recommended to stop the choice on the phone. A smartphone is more expensive, but it offers a wide variety of options: games, videos, the Internet, thousands of programs for all occasions. However, its battery life is significantly less than that of a regular phone.

The short battery life of smartphones on Android has become a real talk of the town. And if in expensive models this problem is given due attention, then in the class of budget devices the issue is very acute. Assessing this niche, the Fly brand launched the Energy 5 smartphone with a high-capacity battery at an extremely affordable price. That's what we're testing today.

Short battery life continues to discourage people from buying cheap Android smartphones. And those who buy are disappointed. Another thing is that special models of devices with high-capacity batteries and hardware stuffing that reduce energy consumption appear on sale. They allow modern smartphones to work three to four times longer. One of the newest models of this kind is Fly EVO Energy 5.

What can the novelty offer? Firstly, a capacious 4000 mAh battery, as well as a MediaTek chip with a quad-core processor, which consumes less power than Qualcomm chips. There is not much RAM - 512 KB, 4 GB of internal memory and a microSD slot. The 5-inch screen is a conventional TFT, and therefore consumes energy more economically.

The main thing you want to understand is how comfortable and convenient it will be to use such a smartphone? Will it be possible to live up to some restrictions for the sake of a longer time of work? Let's see.

Dimensions and scope of delivery

id="sub1">

For Fly Energy 5 from the very beginning you notice a certain non-standard in comparison with other devices. The smartphone is large, wide and weighty. For example, the dimensions here are 144.5x72x11 mm. Weight - 193 grams. This is a lot even for a five-inch gadget. But it should be borne in mind that all this is due to the use of a more capacious battery. The rest of the smartphone is similar to its counterparts. It can be worn without any problems in the pockets of jeans or tight clothes.

Delivery set includes:

  • Smartphone Fly IQ4505 EVO Energy 5
  • Battery Fly BL3816 (4000 mAh)
  • Adapter for connecting to the electrical network
  • USB to microUSB cable
  • Wired headset
  • Instructions and warranty card

Appearance and design

id="sub2">

The appearance of the smartphone is quite normal. Rectangular shape, rounded corners, narrow side control buttons - all this is found in many models. The front part of Fly Energy 5 reminded me of the design of the front part of the first generation YotaPhone. The shape, the indents from the display, the speaker, the front camera - all this is very similar to the "domestic gadget".

Along with this, I note the high-quality plastic case. On the front side it is glossy, and on the sides and back it is matte with a velvety coating. Thanks to this, the smartphone does not slip out of your hands, even if they are wet or, conversely, completely dry. But on the display, because of its gloss, both fingerprints and dust are visible.

The assembly of the device can be estimated at a solid five. During the test, I did not find any squeaks or backlash of individual parts.

On the front of the Fly IQ4504 EVO Energy 5 there is a light sensor and an accelerometer. There is also a speaker for voice calls. On the right is the front camera. It can be used to communicate via VoIP, as well as Skype. The central place is occupied by a 5-inch screen. Below it are three touch buttons management.

The power button and screen lock is located on the right side face. Above it you can see the volume rocker. At the bottom there is a connector for a microUSB interface cable, as well as a microphone. The hole for connecting headphones is located on the top end.

The camera lens can be seen on the back of the machine. There is also an LED flash that can be used as a flashlight for lighting. At the bottom is a speaker for playing external sounds and music. It is quite enough to hear the call. Problems can arise if your smartphone is at a decent distance from you.

The back cover is securely fastened and, at the same time, it is easy to remove it (there is a special slot next to the micoUSB connector). There is no backlash or squeak. Under the cover there is a battery and three slots - two for SIM-cards (one of them for cards of a standard form, and the second for microSIM) and one for a microSD card.

I had no complaints about the quality during the testing of the device. Only the black version of the smartphone is available for sale.

Screen

id="sub3">

As for the display, it is capacitive, with a resolution of 480x854 pixels. Diagonal 5 inches. Made using TFT technology. It is worth noting that it is inferior to higher quality IPS matrices in terms of brightness and color reproduction. Along with this, the viewing angles here are not bad. At a deviation of 120 degrees, the image fades.

Due to the small screen resolution, individual pixels are visible. Automatic brightness control works adequately and correctly selects the backlight level depending on the ambient light.

The device normally perceives touches, there are no problems with sensitivity. The smartphone has an automatic brightness sensor and a proximity sensor. They work correctly.

In general, it turned out to be a kind of compromise between the quality of the screen and its energy efficiency.

Programs and software

id="sub4">

Smartphone works under Android control 4.4.2. At the same time, the user interface almost completely coincides with the classic Android. There are various toggles in the notifications menu, and from the lock screen you can launch the camera and search Google. Holding down the home key brings up a list of recently opened apps.

In standby mode, seven desktops are available to the user. By default, one of them is completely empty, the other displays shortcuts for individual applications and widgets, on the rest - a calendar, bookmarks, music player. Each desktop can be customized.

From distinctive features I would like to note the pre-installed programs FlyBook (Fly e-book store), ivi.ru, SPB TV, VKontakte, Facebook, Twitter, Odnoklassniki clients, Yandex services, Kaspersky antivirus, Vault, uBank, intaxi service, games and the Promsvyazbank application.

By the number of applications running on a smartphone out of the box, the device can be praised. Most need to be eaten. The rest can be downloaded from Google Play.

Multimedia features

id="sub5">

The app for playing music is called "Music" . Here you can view and listen to audio tracks. The following file formats are supported: MP3, AMR, AAC, AAC+, e-AAC+. There is sorting by artists, albums, genres, composers.

With this, in terms of settings, not everything is good here. For example, there is no equalizer, no additional buttons to control music on the lock screen.

Of the pleasant moments, I note the presence of an FM radio with an auto search function, manual setting frequencies and broadcast recording.

The package includes a regular headset. Thanks to the 3.5 mm jack, you can pick up any headphones.

The "Video" item displays videos made both by the device's camera and downloaded from the Internet.

A kind of thematic browser for photo and video files is the "Gallery" item. All files are divided into folders: photos and video clips, music.

Camera. Photo and video capabilities

id="sub6">

Fly IQ4504 EVO Energy 5 has a 5-megapixel camera ( maximum resolution pictures 2560x1920 pixels) with flash. There is an HDR mode. Autofocus is present. By and large, the camera in this smartphone is very budget. It is suitable for primitive domestic needs, but there is no need to talk about a more or less professional approach.

Video is recorded in 3GP format at 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution. In the camera application, the choice of video resolution, in our opinion, is not implemented very well. Only four quality settings are available (high, good, medium and low). It would be more convenient to choose the resolution (1080, 720, etc.) of the video, but this is not for everybody.

The front camera has a resolution of 0.3 megapixels.

Photos and videos can be viewed from the Media menu. Photos and videos are displayed as thumbnails, the list opens very quickly, there are no delays even with a large number of pictures or images. In the gallery, you can scroll through the photos by tilting the phone in one direction or another. All this was thanks to the built-in accelerometer.

Memory and speed

id="sub7">

In terms of hardware, Energy 5 runs on a MediaTek MTK6582M processor with a Mali-400 MP graphics chip and 512 KB of RAM. This chip has four Cortex-A7 cores with a frequency of 1.3 GHz. The performance is average and allows you to smoothly play most modern games, as well as HD quality videos from YouTube. Iron from MediaTek helps not to consume battery power so quickly.

Built-in memory 4 GB. But about 600 MB are available for user data and another 1.6 GB is allocated for applications, and the rest of the space is occupied by the system. You must immediately purchase a memory card with the device, otherwise free place can end very quickly. The cards are in microSD format.

As for the impressions from the speed of the device, they are neutral. This is not to say that the smartphone is very fast. At the same time, it obviously does not slow down and does not freeze, although it works slower than more expensive smartphones.

Communication options

id="sub8">

The smartphone works with two SIM-cards. As happens in such cases, there is only one radio module. Fly Energy 5 operates in 2G GSM and 3G WCDMA networks. For fast wireless data transfer mobile networks The smartphone supports the HSPA+ standard.

In addition, the smartphone supports the Wi-Fi standard (802.11 b/g/n). The device is equipped with Bluetooth version 4.0, GPS, A-GPS. Used for navigation google maps Maps.

Working time

id="sub9">

The smartphone has a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh. Declared up to 250 hours of standby time, 15 hours of talk time, 8 hours of 3G network. Under test conditions, with the number of calls 50 - 55 minutes a day, always-on Wi-Fi and Internet browsing for about 1.5 hours, working with social networks and online applications, listening to an mp3 player through a headset, the device worked for about 2 hours a day two days. With less intensive use, it is realistic to achieve a working time of 3-4 days. If you turn on navigation, and also allow several applications to work in the background, then the time will drop to 1.5 days. This is a very good result.

The battery is charged in four hours.

Results

id="sub10">

Fly EVO Energy 5 turned out to be a worthy representative of the line of devices with increased battery capacity. Under extreme load, it can work up to two days, and with standard use - up to three or four. The device is well assembled, has a large screen, supports two SIM cards.

The explosive growth of the market of budget communicators continues. Direct proof of this is the supply of MediaTek processors last year. It is these inexpensive, productive and economical chips that have become the basis for a huge number of Chinese smartphones with Android, which first captured their native Celestial market, and then began to expand into Eastern Europe.

In North America and Western Europe, buyers of most smartphones get them for next to nothing with a carrier contract, or pay a reasonable down payment for them, with the rest paid in small monthly installments. Thus, operators encourage users to consume more various services (first of all, Internet traffic), and they themselves receive bonuses from smartphone manufacturers. Budget devices are not so attractive for buyers: it makes no sense to pay a comparable amount for a cheap smartphone - you still have to pay a basic rather big operator contract for service.

Residents of Russia and our closest neighbors are deprived of all this. There is no subsidizing of devices by operators; without it, even mid-range smartphones cost significantly; the number cannot be transferred from one SIM card to another, as a result, subscribers are tied to their operator and its SIM card. Of course, you can buy a smartphone on credit, but the high price of top-end devices, at the level of a monthly salary in the country, and exorbitant bank interest make this whole enterprise dubious. In addition, it is one thing when a smartphone is provided by an operator in installments, as in Europe, and quite another when you overpay for it one and a half times to the bank that issued the loan. It is for these reasons that Chinese budget smartphones are gaining more and more popularity in our country. The optimal ratio of price and functionality attracts the attention of buyers who are ready to turn a blind eye to the lack of a "label" well-known manufacturer electronics on your communicator (although there are exceptions - for example, Philips smartphones). Especially when, according to its characteristics, a device from China corresponds to a communicator of the highest market segment, albeit with a lag of 1-2 years, and costs 2-3 times less, like, for example, Jiayu G3.

Some popular representatives of this cohort of mobile devices have already visited our editorial office, but their list is far from exhausted. And here comes another one budget smartphone on the MediaTek platform.

The hero of this review is a representative of last year's line of smartphones from Fly, namely the Fly IQ440 Energie. This communicator is almost a complete analogue of the Fly IQ441 Radiance smartphone we have already seen, the main differences between them are a slightly smaller display diagonal with a more capacious battery in Fly IQ440.

Delivery set and specifications

The communicator comes in a nice little white cardboard box. Image of the communicator, its main characteristics and detailed description capabilities allow you to quickly identify and understand what kind of device is contained inside the package.

The following were removed from the box: a communicator, a rechargeable battery, a charger with a USB-compatible connector, a Micro-USB-USB cable, a wired stereo headset, ear pads for it, and numerous documentation. All information, both on the box and in the accompanying documents, is presented in Russian.

Design and appearance

The hero of the review is another typical representative of the class of compact all-in-one communicators. The design of all such smartphones is approximately the same, and the creation process consists in the manufacture of a rounded oblong case made of black plastic to accommodate the display and the entire filling of the communicator.

The tone of the whole structure of Fly IQ440 is set by a large and massive battery. It is he who is responsible both for the excessive weight of the device, and for its tangible dimensions. If you pay attention to the comparison table of communicators, it is noticeable that the largest weight and dimensions are just for smartphones with a capacious battery. Only Jiayu G3 is an exception - apparently, its developers tried to find a smaller battery or installed a more modern model of a lithium-ion battery.

Be that as it may, Fly IQ440 turned out to be large and massive for its display diagonal. The weight of the communicator is clearly felt both when working with it and in your pocket, which, however, does not mean that the smartphone is inconvenient to use or it puts a lot of pressure on the hand. The weight and dimensions of the hero of the review remained within reasonable limits, the smartphone fits comfortably in the hand, at least for a man, both due to the thick case and corrugated, rubber-like soft-touch plastic, which the back panel of the communicator is made of.

The Fly IQ440 display diagonal is optimal for smartphone control with the thumb of one hand, which is very easy to reach any point of the front panel of the communicator without changing the grip.

The build quality of the review hero is good. The only inconspicuous creak was removed only with a strong pressure on back panel smartphone, otherwise there are no backlashes, squeaks or shortcomings.

In addition to the mentioned “rubber” plastic of the battery compartment cover, the materials of the Fly IQ440 case are glossy black plastic (the communicator's stiffener is made of it) and transparent plastic that looks like glass and covers the smartphone screen.

At the bottom of the front panel of the communicator are the standard system and application control keys, they are backlit. Above the display are a phone speaker, light and proximity sensors, an additional camera lens and an LED. The work of the latter seemed strange to us: apparently, its only task is to inform about a low battery level. He does not respond to missed calls, or to the process of charging the battery, or to incoming messages. We also did not like the large recess for the speaker, over time, dust will begin to collect in it. And in the gap between the display and the stiffener, dust began to collect immediately after removing the smartphone from the box.

The protective display panel is the only Fly IQ440 design element that actively collects fingerprints of the smartphone user. The battery cover, also known as the rear panel of the communicator, not only covers the battery, but also comes with its edges to all ends of the review hero's case. Only from below the protrusion of the stiffening rib of the Fly IQ440 body protrudes into the cover and thus forms the end of the communicator.

Disconnecting the back panel of the review hero is quite simple, you just need to pull the notch provided with your fingernail. Install back - too. A huge battery occupies almost the entire body of the communicator, under it are both slots for SIM-cards and a slot for memory cards microSD. A little space is left only for the camera lens and the main speaker of the communicator - by the way, covered with a protective piece of cloth. On the reverse side of the battery compartment cover, you can see a rubber damper - a manifestation of the Fly IQ440 developers' concern for the noiselessness and reliability of the smartphone's design. Apparently, they decided to add this detail at the last moment, since the rubber panel was glued crookedly and carelessly.

On the left side of the Fly IQ440 there are volume control buttons and a Micro-USB connector. On the right side there is only a power button. All keys are embossed enough for their unmistakable touch detection, but their travel could be more.

The hero of the review has a headset jack (3.5 mm) on the top, and a microphone on the bottom.

So, there are only a few complaints about the design of the Fly IQ440: firstly, these are “dust collectors” in the form of a gap between the screen and the case and a hole for a telephone speaker, secondly, a strange LED, the operation of which is almost imperceptible, and thirdly, a lot of weight and body thickness. However, the last drawback can be considered a virtue - a thick communicator is more comfortable to hold in your hand.

As for the design of the smartphone, the Fly IQ440 looks good for a budget device. All elements of the communicator's exterior, their location, as well as the case materials in the form of black plastic of various styles, have long become classics and do not cause absolutely any emotions - neither positive nor negative.

Software

As operating system Fly IQ440 smartphone uses Android 4.0.4. The developers have not prepared any additional shells, the system is presented almost in its original form.

But additional software in the firmware of the hero of the review, by the standards of a budget smartphone, there is plenty built-in. This list includes: clients of popular social networks in Russia - Vkontakte and Odnoklassniki, ivi.ru streaming video player, Flybook bookstore of its own design, Ubank Internet banking client, intaxi - a program for finding and calling a taxi, CoinKeeper - a program for maintaining personal finance, VoiceChanger - a meaningless application (although for someone else) for phone calls in a "strange voice", works through paid calls to a short number, file manager ES Explorer - perhaps the most useful program from the list, LivelyCubes is a puzzle game, and the list is completed by a huge Yandex widget with a variety of information, which occupies one of the five tabs of the system's main screen and provides quick access to its various services. Describing this whole "zoo" does not make much sense, most programs do not need to be introduced; Separately, it is worth noting the Flybook and Ubank applications, we have already given a detailed description of them in the review of the brother of the hero of the review - Fly IQ441.

Whether all these applications will be useful to the smartphone owner is an open question. It is commendable that the developers of Fly IQ440, unlike many other manufacturers of mobile devices, left the possibility to remove unnecessary programs and thus free up some memory of the communicator for other applications.

Display and sound

The ratio of the physical size of the matrix (4″) and resolution (480×800 pixels) is such that the display pixel density of the Fly IQ440 is 233 dpi. Of course, with such a pixel density, the Fly IQ440 screen is far from Retina and HD matrices, but even in its current form, the picture shown by the review hero’s display looks pretty good for a budget smartphone. Individual pixels of the matrix are noticeable only if you look hard and look for them specifically.

In general, the display of Fly IQ440, made using IPS technology, is quite good: viewing angles are good, the picture is rich, the backlight power is enough to work indoors, but in bright light it becomes difficult to distinguish anything on the screen - the image dims.

capacitive technology touch screen allows you to recognize multiple simultaneous touches. Unfortunately, in the case of Fly IQ440 their number is limited to only two simultaneous signals.

The Fly IQ440 phone speaker and microphone allow you to make calls and communicate with your interlocutors without any problems. The speaker has acceptable sound quality and volume. There were no complaints about the microphone either.

The main speaker is characterized by low power and a general bias in low frequencies. There is no extraneous clanging or rattling, but the melodies sound as if from a deep well. It is very difficult to mute the speaker, even if you close the hole on the rear panel with your finger - thanks to the multilayer construction of the case.

The headphone output power of the hero of the review is average. Weak low frequencies in the signal are also noticeable, even their amplification in the equalizer does not help. In general, the quality of the audio output should satisfy most potential owners.

Probably, in order to correct the above shortcomings, the Fly IQ440 developers have included a headset with low impedance and very bass speakers, with the equalizer turned on, even an excessive constant hum appears. Oddly enough, listening to music with Fly IQ440 is more interesting with it than with more expensive headphones.

The headset is non-separable, the phones are not disconnected from the control unit with a microphone and a call answer key.

The FM radio receiver built into the Fly IQ440 traditionally requires a headset or headphones, but agrees to work without them. The reception quality is average, the control program is standard, there is support for RDS and audio signal recording.

Wireless interfaces and communication

Fly IQ440 has all the wireless interfaces for receiving and transmitting data necessary for mobile life. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules allow you to exchange information on short distance, GSM and 3G - make calls and access the Internet in any place where there is support for these cellular networks. The set complements the signal receiver of the GPS satellite navigation system.

There were no problems with the operation of the communication modules. The communicator successfully makes calls and transmits data over two communication channels, but with limitations. Like all smartphones on the MediaTek platform, the hero of the review allows two SIM cards to work simultaneously only in standby mode, but if a call arrives on one of the channels, then on the other the smartphone is “out of reach”, and the network connection is cut off.

The maximum Wi-Fi speed that we managed to register with Fly IQ440 is 24 Mbps, we used the TP-Link TL-WR1043ND router in 802.11n/40 MHz mode for testing.

Determining the coordinates of the communicator with using GPS takes some time. The process can be accelerated by using A-GPS and EPO technologies. From navigation programs in the original firmware of the smartphone there are only standard Google maps.

Camera

The developers of Fly IQ440 acted a little strange: they saved on the flash for the main camera of the smartphone, but did not remove the additional camera from the front panel. It would be better if they left the flash, but removed the little-used second camera - although who cares.

Be that as it may, cameras in budget communicators have always been on the sidelines in the list of characteristics, potential owners of smartphones of this class are attracted by more significant parameters and their ratio to the price. They often do not care what capabilities and characteristics the camera built into a mobile device has, as long as it shoots and records video. Progress, however, does not stand still, and even budget smartphones now have cameras that take good quality pictures and videos.

The matrix of the Fly IQ440 main camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels, which allows you to take pictures with a size of 2560 × 1920 pixels; this camera is equipped with an autofocus system, which works, however, a little strange: you cannot manually specify the focus area at all, the camera itself constantly adjusts the focus. Macro photography is generally not available for Fly IQ440 - the camera refuses to focus on close objects.

The camera built into the Fly IQ440 is best at capturing panoramas, preferably in good lighting and without objects moving in the frame - in this case, HDR technology helps a lot. But the rest of the plots are quite within her power, the main thing is not to count on too much. You can see sample pictures below.

The camera control program has a simple and straightforward interface. As if hinting at the purely utilitarian purpose of the camera in this smartphone, there are not very many shooting settings, there are only the most necessary: timer, shooting mode, geotagging, exposure compensation, HDR and various shooting effects (not so relevant in the Instagram era).

Let's make sure once again of the voiced facts and look at the scores that the Fly IQ440 received in various performance tests.

Quadrant standard

As expected, the performance of Fly IQ440 and Fly IQ441 are identical. Together with the Jiayu G3, they slightly outperform the Philips W732, which has a single-core version of the MediaTek chip, and are inferior to the second and third generation Samsung Galaxy S communicators.

For everyday work, the performance of the MediaTek MTK6577 is more than enough: delays in the operation of the system and programs, if they occur, are not caused by a lack of processor power. For more demanding applications such as games and high-definition video playback, this platform may no longer be enough, as we saw by running GLBenchmark and NenaMark tests.

NenaMark 2.4

Geekbench 2

It remains to be seen how things stand with video playback of various formats and resolutions. The list of clips and the reasons for their selection are detailed in the article on the methodology for testing video signal display devices.

Formatcontainer, video, soundMX Video PlayerRegular video player

¹ sound in MX Video Player only played after switching to software decoding; The regular player does not have such a setting.

So, Fly IQ440 coped with the playback of all videos except for the most “voluminous” one. But it can also be viewed if desired, if you switch MX Player to software decoding mode. It should be noted that the hardware acceleration on the Fly IQ440 works somewhat strangely: when playing all the videos, a slight twitching of the picture was noticeable. It does not exist if you watch videos of lower bitrates and resolutions in MX Player in software decoding mode.

conclusions

The Fly IQ440 communicator turned out to be exactly the device it was supposed to be - a partner for the Fly IQ441, a competitor for the Philips W732, another good budget smartphone based on the MediaTek MTK6577 platform with support for two SIM cards.

The characteristics of the hero of the review, its advantages and disadvantages, the weight and shape of the case, the price in the end, make it interesting option for purchase by those buyers who need a smartphone based on a popular operating system with a long battery life, a good display, sane performance and an adequate price. In this regard, Fly IQ440 should meet the expectations of such buyers, if they are ready to turn a blind eye to everything else.

So, with all its minuses and pluses, the hero of the review occupies a worthy place in the segment of budget communicators. Long battery life good display, more than reasonable price (at the time of writing the review equal to 6150 rubles) - this is what makes up the bulk of the "barrel of honey" called Fly IQ440 Energie. Tea spoons of tar in it - a lot of weight, a thick body, minor design flaws and an ordinary design.

In a smartphone of the budget segment, it is impossible to combine everything, but the manufacturer needs to attract the buyer with a beautiful idea. For this purpose, Fly has created several lines of inexpensive gadgets with a strong emphasis on one characteristic, for example, Fly EVO Energy 5, a 5-inch smartphone with a capacious 4000 mAh battery and a 4-core processor, came to our laboratory. However, it is not always possible to combine low cost, a good overall level of performance and at the same time make a smartphone stand out on the market. In our review, we will see how the increase in battery capacity has affected other qualities of the smartphone.

Fly EVO Energy 5 | Design and appearance

Fly Energy 5 is delivered in a white box, which emphasizes the visual image of the model.

On the back of the box you can see the characteristics of this device.

Removable cover - "lid" of the box.

Immediately under the cover is a smartphone in a small recess, protected from the edges by a white porous material. However, only a thin cardboard “lid” separates the smartphone from the outside world during transportation, which is of course a small minus.

The protective material has a small notch at the top for convenience when taking Fly Energy 5 out of the box.

Standard delivery set:

  • Fly Energy 5
  • Charger
  • USB cable
  • Headphones
  • Instruction

Screen closed protective film, which lists the main advantages of this model.

Fly Energy 5 looks somewhat bulky due to its 1.1 cm thickness.

In general, the smartphone looks very stylish, finished and concise. Nothing superfluous, strict business design will suit users of all generations. However, this fact can be regarded from the other side: some pretentious buyers can describe Fly Energy 5 as a "brick".

The front panel is nothing special, when the screen is off, it resembles a black rectangle with rounded edges. In its upper part there is a speaker notch, a little to the right is a light sensor. There is no LED indicator, which can be a serious disadvantage for users who are used to Android, because now it is one of the standard attributes of smartphones on this OS. There is also a small metal insert around the screen, which goes below the screen to the central part of Fly EVO Energy 5 and “rises” in the upper and lower parts.

Standard touch buttons are located below, in a row, they light up when touched.

The rear panel is completely covered with a lid with smooth, directed to the side faces, folds on all sides. The lid is black, made of plastic, has a rough external structure.

At the top right is the camera, a little lower is the flash.

Bottom right - four (upper and lower slightly shorter than the central) lines of holes - here is the speaker.

Just below the center of the back panel is the Fly logo in an embossed rectangle.

Headphone jack is located on the top edge on the left in orientation with the front panel towards the user.

The left side is completely empty. On the bottom, slightly to the right of the center, there is a micro-USB connector.

All buttons are on the right side, above the center. The on-off button is located just below the volume rockers (there is no “jumper” in the center of the rockers). All buttons are made of plastic, feel tactile and are comfortable.

On all sides there is a metal, slightly protruding insert, cast in purple and having visual thin stripes directed along the insert.

The cover is removed using a small notch at the bottom. The battery takes up most of the space under the cover.

Slots for SIM, microSIM and microSD cards located in two "levels", on top of a regular SIM-card. They can only be accessed after removing the battery (which can be done using a small notch on the bottom).

Fly EVO Energy 5 | Ergonomics

Fly EVO Energy 5 is comfortable to hold in any orientation. However, while charging portrait orientation the USB cable will get in the way a bit. The unusually large weight of the smartphone is also felt - the first consequence of a capacious and large battery.

Fly EVO Energy 5 | Screen

Although the screen is quite large, there is no visual "shovel effect", the edges of the screen are close to the edges of the smartphone itself. For its diagonal, the smartphone has a very low resolution, below the standard for this price category, which is only 480 × 854 pixels. The pixels are very well distinguishable, which is quite logical, but the color depth and the width of the viewing angles are quite decent, because the Fly EVO Energy 5 has an IPS matrix.

There will be no particular problems with brightness, it is comfortably adjusted to the needs of the user.

Fly EVO Energy 5 | Software

Fly EVO Energy 5 runs on Android 4.4. The proprietary shell is not used, only Google, Navitel, UBANK, PSB - Mobile elements and a small set of games are preinstalled.

Fly EVO Energy 5 | Camera

Fly EVO Energy 5 is equipped with 5-megapixel rear and 0.3-megapixel front cameras. The quality of the pictures from the rear camera is good, but the focus is not very good in landscape shots, in general they are a little blurry.

The front camera corresponds to its small capabilities, the quality of shooting is poor, but this is quite enough for communication.

Pictures were taken from a pre-installed application. You can judge their quality for yourself by downloading the full-size version of the image in our gallery.

The camera offers a standard range of settings. You can adjust shooting modes, focus, HDR, photo quality and size, enable or disable face detection, or restore factory settings. With one touch, you can turn on such modes as panorama, "live photo" and "beautiful face". In our opinion, the settings are located conveniently enough to provide quick navigation among the many options.

Fly EVO Energy 5 | Video

I would like to note that Fly EVO Energy 5 plays most popular codecs, but more is not required, given the resolution of the smartphone. The comfort of watching movies is a very controversial point: the brightness and color reproduction are at a fairly good level, but the pixel density is too low at all for watching any animation if you want to relax and have fun.

Fly EVO Energy 5 | Music

To listen to music, you can use the preset Play app Music by Google, which is a typical audio player with the ability to buy, store and listen to music. It also has a built-in set of additional functions.

Fly EVO Energy 5 | Performance

CPU performance

We tested the performance of the MediaTek MT6582M quad-core processor using Linpack. Results are in millions of floating point operations per second (MFLOPS).

Fly Evo Energy 5 does not support this test: as a result of a series of attempts to launch it, an error was generated each time.

Overall system performance

We used Smartbench 2012 1.0 to evaluate overall system performance. This test is very similar to the 3DMark and SysMark packages, as it provides simple and convenient performance indexes for two categories: productivity applications and games. On the other hand, a synthetic test may not accurately reflect the actual performance of applications and games.

You can compare the results with other smartphones and tablets at http://smartphonebenchmarks.com

The test showed at the same time good performance and productivity apps and games. For this price category, a very good result of versatility. Although the low resolution of the display should not be forgotten.

Antutu

Based on the test results, we can judge a good CPU for this price category. The GPU result is somewhat overestimated due to the low resolution.

Java script performance

SunSpider is a JavaScript test that demonstrates both the performance of a smartphone's JavaScript engine and processing power (to a lesser extent) hardware. Poor implementation of JavaScript on a very fast smartphone can "blur" the overall performance of the platform. And at the same time, a great implementation of JavaScript will allow you to effectively use even slow systems. However, today the main implementations of JavaScript engines are getting closer to each other, developers are borrowing all the best ideas. JavaScript tests are single-threaded due to the nature of browsers. SunSpider correctly evaluates CPU-sensitive tasks found in real web applications.

Below are the results of SunSpider 1.0.2 on tablets and Android phones. Android devices use the Google V8 JavaScript engine. The smaller the result, the better it is.

Not a very good result, although Internet surfing feels comfortable. It seems to us that the matter is again in the poor optimization of the smartphone.

Network bandwidth

We tested network performance with the IxChariot benchmark as well as an 802.11 b/g/n router with 1 Gbps ports. The smartphone was at a distance of about 1 meter from the access point. We tested the maximum available network mode (802.11g or 802.11n), at that time there were no other active transmissions, no pronounced interference in the network coverage area was detected either.

Fly EVO Energy 5 did not show very well good results, however, even they are more than enough for domestic needs, since it is almost impossible to get a high download speed of the material.

Relative Benchmark

This test is created "for growth", really high results, no available devices on Android based cannot show. The level of graphics is much higher than the average game, so even if the results here are not impressive, in real games performance can be quite good. 60 fps in this test is already Xbox 360.

Pretty good results for this synthetic test, Fly EVO Energy 5 coped well with it

3D mark

As a result of the launch of the third most “complexity” test, each time there was a failure and crash: the smartphone cannot reproduce graphics of this quality. A definite minus of Fly EVO Energy 5. The result in the other two tests is average, but the smartphone should confirm its position in real gaming tests.

epic citadel

We have added gaming test Epic Citadel, which is a demonstration of the capabilities of the Unreal engine from Infinity Blade for Android OS. The test has different .apk and cache for different GPUs, so you need to take your versions for the test. The test was conducted in High Quality and Ultra High Quality modes.

Here Fly EVO Energy 5 also expected failure: this application crashes shortly after launch. Since the crashes did not occur during the test, it is impossible to judge bad gaming performance, but poor optimization is clearly visible, since this is not the "heaviest" application.

Fly EVO Energy 5 | Battery Life

Tests were performed at medium screen brightness, with one SIM card turned on, without a Wi-Fi connection. Videos were viewed with headphones.

When watching a video, we got 11 hours of battery life, in the game - 10 hours. Excellent performance: with an average load, the smartphone “lived” for two and a half days. At the same time, most of the time it was connected to Wi-Fi, calls and web surfing were made, music was listened to, applications were used.

I was very pleased with the battery charging time - with this capacity, the expected performance was worse.

Fly EVO Energy 5 | Conclusion

Fly EVO Energy 5 proved to be contradictory in the tests: those that were launched gave good results, but there were too many failures in those programs that the smartphone could “pull”. Therefore, according to the author, the smartphone is not well optimized.

Nevertheless, Fly EVO Energy 5 is equipped with a relatively powerful SoC for the "budget" segment and coped well with many games launched outside of the tests. The smartphone is assembled with high quality, pleasant to the touch, looks stylish and concise, but there is some "stinginess" in the design. Some users will surely compare the smartphone with a "brick". I would also like to say about the outer shell and special functions: here the manufacturers also did not distinguish themselves with special originality, everything is standard. Not pleased with the low screen resolution, an obvious minus.

In general, the smartphone feels comfortable and fast, but a bit heavy. According to the author, the emphasis on a high capacity of 4000 mAh has partially justified itself - the time of normal use of Fly EVO Energy 5 without recharging really seems long: the convenience of this solution will be fully appreciated by users who are accustomed to "long-lived" old phones and appreciate the mobility and comfort of long-term work without recharging. recharging. The smartphone managed to hold out for two and a half days. In general, the disadvantages of this phone are fully compensated by the battery capacity, especially for you it is a priority.

Advantages of Fly EVO Energy 5:

  • Good performance in applications and games for the "budget" category
  • Powerful battery, great battery life
  • Good build quality, stylish and concise design

Disadvantages of Fly EVO Energy 5:

  • "Budget" filling, lack of original concepts, apart from high capacity
  • Poor app optimization
  • Unusually large smartphone weight

Today I present to you the 5 inch Smartphone Fly ERA Energy 1, main feature which is a 4,000 mAh battery. For comparison, all the phones I reviewed earlier had a much smaller battery - 1,200-2,000 mAh. It was all the more interesting to look at the time of his work. Let me tell you right now, this is just amazing. There are also disadvantages, where without them, but we will consider them below in the traditional “pros, cons and characteristics” format. You can find a more detailed article written for the Na-Svyaz.ru Internet portal here (link).
The model for testing was provided by the press service of the Fly company.

Cons of Fly IQ4502 ERA Energy 1
1. Not enough available memory to install applications. This a common problem for all budget Android devices with 4 GB ROM. Android 4 by default prohibits the installation of applications on a memory card (this requires root and a series of manipulations). In this model, about 1.3 GB is available to you.
2. TFT screen with 854x480 resolution and 196 ppi pixel density. I want more resolution and an IPS screen. But then the smartphone would be clearly more expensive. However, you quickly get used to the quality of the screen and don't particularly notice the shortcomings inherent in TN-matrices. The display recognizes up to two simultaneous touches.
3. In budget smartphones, cameras still shoot very badly. Fly Energy 1 is no exception. There is no autofocus on the main camera at 5 megapixels, and the rear camera has a resolution of only 0.3 megapixels.
4. The smartphone is heavy - 190 g. The thickness of the device is also rather big - 11.2 mm. The reason, as you understand, is in a large battery.
5. Preinstalled Applications, not included in the set of programs (list in the heading "Preinstalled software"). In any case, you will have to delete them in order to free up space for the applications you need.

Pros of Fly IQ4502 ERA Energy 1
1. Powerful 4,000 mAh battery. It is able to work without recharging not 1-2 days, like ordinary smartphones, but up to 3-7 days (with an average intensity of use). Read more about the test results below in the "Battery and operating time" section.
2. Enough fast charging for such a capacious battery - 3.5-4 hours.
3. 2 SIM cards. The first SIM module works in 2G / 3G modes, the second - in 2G mode. The phone is convenient to use with two SIM-cards. One for voice communication, the other for mobile Internet (turns on as needed).
4. Diagonal screen. Although the resolution is not as high as we would like, but 5 inches is still more than 4 or 4.5 inches.
5. 4-core Mediatek processor MT6582 (1.3 GHz) and video accelerator Mali-400 MP. The results of synthetic tests are not bad, three-dimensional games also do not slow down.
6. Good price - from 6,500 rubles. Yes, for this money you can find a smartphone with an IPS screen, but you will have to look for a phone with similar characteristics and the same capacious battery.

Preinstalled software
One of latest versions Android - Android 4.4.2. You should not wait for updates to 4.4.4 or 5.0. Except standard set programs you will find the following applications: social networks ("VKontakte", "Odnoklassniki", Facebook); online services (Taxi, uBank, PSB-Mobile, Change yo! Voice); games (Texas Poker, Sea Birds, Danger Dash, Lively Cubes, World at Arms, " green farm"). A trial version of Navitel is also installed.

Battery and operating time
Test 1: Watch online YouTube videos over Wi-Fi. Brightness on "auto", volume in the middle, listening through headphones, Mobile Internet, GPS, Bluetooth are disabled.
For the first time, the smartphone lasted 12 hours, while the charge level decreased from 100% to 30%. But this result was achieved due to the fact that most of the screen was given to black (we launched such a video). For the second time, we launched continuous playback of clips and FlyERA Energy 1 lasted 12 hours before shutting down.

Test 2. Watching movies through a media player. Brightness on "auto", volume in the middle, listening through headphones, all communication modules are disabled (airplane mode).
Here we have achieved better results. 9 hours of continuous playback reduced the battery level from 100% to 40%. It turns out that in this mode the phone can work for about 15 hours.

Charging time from 0% to 100% - 3.5-4 hours using charger included in the kit.
